The Dar El Jeld restaurant took up the challenge of combining a sumptuous historical setting with the delicacy of Tunisian cuisine, and the result is just amazing. It is located in the Medina, close to the Kasbah, and actually occupies an ancient building which housed the former Ottoman Beys’ administration. This building was successfully renovated and turned into a restaurant in 1987. Guests enjoy ambient Arabic music and sumptuous Ottoman décor of chandeliers, painted ceilings, oriental carpets, ancient furniture and walls adorned with coloured tiles and carved stucco. The Dar El Jeld serves several different menus based on meat or fish dishes, and all cooked by the book of the traditional Tunisian gastronomy, as well as a full Tunisian wine menu.

Enjoy the luxurious surroundings of this exquisite restaurant, where highly-trained chefs cook traditional Tunisian dishes that combine delicate flavours. Diwan opened in 1997 near its sister restaurant, Dar El Jeld. They share an owner and rely on the same concept: Tunisian cuisine in the setting of a lush Ottoman mansion (the mansion that houses Diwan dates from the beginning of the 20th century). In addition, Diwan encompasses an art gallery where many events are held, such as book signings, painting and photography exhibitions from Tunisian and foreign contemporary artists.

It is the work of two young Tunisian brothers, Sadri and Lyed Tej and a Tunisian designer, Mona Mechri. El Firma is an incredibly beautiful place, with antique cushioned chairs, warm, textured old stone walls and a long, narrow dining room.

The seating moves out onto a large, open courtyard.  The restaurant attracts people of all ages.
